Our Transition Year Class of 2020 had their first outing of the year on Friday 25th September. They visited Fortress Spike Island where they received a guided tour and had time to explore the history of Ireland’s Alcatraz. They discovered the history and geography of the island and it was great to spend the day in an outdoor classroom.
Here are the thoughts of some of the TY students…

“I really enjoyed the trip to Spike Island. I thought it was very interesting experience and I learned a few new things too. It was great to be able to explore the island, take in its history with my classmates and have a laugh along the way especially in such challenging times where it’s hard to make such things happen” – Warren

“My experience on Spike Island was amazing because I got to know the history of prisoners and people who lived there. Our Tour guide, Karl, was very good at explaining the history that happened there and he made sure that everyone understood what he was saying. The view and the scenery was beautiful. It was worth seeing and I will go there again someday” – Brenda
