A school tour in a pandemic is no mean feat. Yet, that is precisely what the Meitheal Team at Coláiste Muire, Cobh achieved in early May this year.

The Child of Prague was put out in the school book shop and he did not let the First years down.

It was a glorious day out. There were two team building activities followed by a guided tour of the Fota Wildlife Park.

The tour was subsidised by the school with a bus provided for each First Year class and a fee reduction. Covid 19 guidelines were adhered to with the compulsory wearing of masks indoors, social distancing on the bus ( a 12 minute journey) and at the Wildlife Park.

The excitement was palpable and the Meitheal Team did enormous work ensuring that the day went smoothly with the collection of fees, parental permission slips and keeping the groups together on the day.

Love was in the air with two of the rhinos at Fota. The students were transfixed with their distant cousins the gibbons, and each group went behind the scenes and met the giraffes up close and personal.

Well done to the Meitheal Team for organising a fun educational and inspiriting day out.
